Design stylized UI that captures the game's narrative and world.

Project Context

Chromatic: CRASH is a PvE and PvP narrative ARPG/fighting game hybrid currently in development for Roblox.

Titles like Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves (ARPGs) with 2XKO and Guilty Gear (fighting games) are good point of references for the direction the game will take.

The narrative follows"the Colorless, a wielder of an unknown powers in a world destabilized by divine collapse, sent on a mission against their will to understand "humanity".

Gameplay

Visual Direction

UI adopts a painterly, brushstroke aesthetic with strong emphasis on diegetic (in-world) interface elements during combat. Primary references include Dishonored 1 & 2, Expedition 33 and Metaphor: ReFantazio (ref 1, ref 2, ref 3, ref 4).

Responsibilities

  • Design diegetic combat UI (health/stamina bars, ability cooldowns, combo meters, status effects, targeting indicators, etc...)
  • Develop menu systems and HUD layouts balancing stylistic goals with functional clarity
  • Create interfaces for the deckbuilder system (card selection, deck management, loadouts)
  • Iterate based on playtesting feedback, balancing readability with aesthetic consistency
  • Design UI animations and transitions that feel responsive in fast-paced combat
  • Ensure usability across varying screen sizes and accessibility needs

Requirements

  • Experience designing UI for action games, ARPGs, or fighting games
  • Comfort iterating on designs through team feedback and playtesting cycles

Payment

Commission-based rates for specific deliverables, starting at 1000$. Rates may vary.
